Isadora Duncan Dance

“I bring you the dance. I bring you the idea that is going to revolutionise our entire epoch. Where have I discovered it? By the Pacific Ocean, but the waving pine-forests of Sierra Nevada. I have seen the ideal figure of youthful American dancing over the top of the Rockies. The supreme poet of our country is Walt Whitman. I have discovered the dance that is worthy of the poem of Walt Whitman. I am indeed the spiritual daughter of Walt Whitman. For the children of America I will create a new dance that will express America. I bring to your theatre the vital soul that it lacks, the soul of the dancer. For you know...that the birth of the theatre was the dance, that the first actor was the dancer. He danced and sang. That was the birth of the tragedy, and until the dancer in all his spontaneous great art returns to the theatre, your theatre will not live in its true expression!”

"My first idea of movement, of the dance, certainly came from the rhythm of the wave." Isadora Duncan

Isadora Duncan Dance is self referral and works physically, energetically, and emotionally directly from the solar plexus and then radiates outward and upwards, using the whole body in a healthy and integrated technique. This creates beautiful, flowing, graceful and truthful movements that naturally unfold creating more and more movements easily resulting in a dance choreography.

The dance then supports the soul's natural state of bliss and health and creates further joy, harmony and strength in the physiology.

The focus in Isadora Dance is on creating uplifting, creative and beautiful dances.

Duncan strives to preserve the natural innocence of the child and the health and natural beauty and divinity of every human being.

Isadora Duncan Dance, owing to its natural healthy technique and movements, are ideal for all ages. all levels of ability.

Isadora Duncan wrote:

And how shall one name that movement which is in accord with the most beautiful human form? There is a name, the name of one of the oldest of the arts, time-honored as one of the nine Muses, but it is a name that has fallen into such disrepute in our day that it has come to mean just the opposite of this definition.

I would name it The Dance. (The Art of the Dance,1905)

“There are likewise three kinds of dancers: first, those who consider dancing as a sort of gymnastic drill, made up of impersonal and graceful arabesques; second, those who, by concentrating their minds, lead the body into the rhythm of a desired emotion, expressing a remembered feeling or experience. And finally, there are those who convert the body into a luminous fluidity, surrendering it to the inspiration of the soul.”

"Ballet has the illusion that mirrors help, but mirrors actually inhibit, mirrors ignore and insult the heart and soul of the dancer,

detracting from the powerful essence, the discovery of abilities and potential, of sensing and feeling true dance" Rebecca Bachar

BENEFITS of DANCE:

Dancing is a great way for all to get & stay in shape. Dancing is Fun & has many benefits. The top are:

1. Flexibility

Flexibility is an important part of being healthy. Dance requires some flexibility. More importantly Dance INCREASES Flexibilty! Dance classes begin w a warm-up including stretching exercises. Dancers can strive to achieve full range of motion for all the major muscle groups. The greater the range of motion, the more muscles can flex and extend. Most forms of dance require dancers to perform moves that require bending and stretching, so dancers naturally become more flexible by simply dancing.

2. Strength

Strength is defined as the ability of a muscle to exert a force against resistance. Dancing builds strength by forcing the muscles to resist against a dancer's own body weight. Many styles of dance, require jumping and leaping into the air. Jumping and leaping require tremendous strength of the major leg muscles.

3. Endurance

Dance is physical exercise. Exercise increases endurance. Endurance is the ability of muscles to work hard for increasingly longer periods of time without fatigue. Regular dancing is great for improving endurance, especially vigorous dancing. Elevating the heart rate can increase stamina. Just as in any form of exercise, regular dancing will build endurance.

4. Sense of Well-Being

Dancing is a social activity. Studies have shown that strong social ties and socializing with friends contribute to high self-esteem and a positive outlook. Dancing provides many opportunities to meet other people. Joining a dance class increases self-confidence and build social skills. Because physical activity reduces stress and tension, regular dancing gives an overall sense of well-being
